TOTR: Running Updates/BIG NEWS

Quick running update with some big news at the end!

Linking up for Tuesday's on the Run!

1. I had my highest mileage week since my marathon last week--50 miles! I haven't pulled one of those weeks in a while but it felt good! I've been listening to my body and running how I want, when I want, and how long I want and last week my legs decided to go for it. I don't know that this trend will continue but we'll see what happens. Either way, it felt good to know I could still pull it off. ;)

2. I still don't really have any races planned. Weird? I don't know. Racing doesn't really excite me at the moment. I've enjoyed running for me and me alone the last few months. I don't need a medal or trophy or validation to know that I love this sport. Last year I raced a lot. And put so much pressure on myself to perform that it wasn't fun anymore. More updates on this to come.

3. This semester has really taken a toll on me, mentally and physically. I've used running as my coping mechanism--thank goodness. So many long, long, LONG days. I've taught a few physical education courses, my normal group-ex classes, working on grad school, working on a HUGE project for work (new software!), renovating a house, becoming a puppy mom, and trying to be a good wife. Whew. I'm almost at my wits end but thanks to running, I've managed to survive somehow. This is my last week of pulling off 10-12 hour work days multiple days (like, 4) a week. I can do this!

4. Probably my biggest (and scariest!) running/life update of all--I'm now a NCAA D2 Cross Country coach. I was a little hesitant to put this out there but decided it's my blog, my life, so let's do it. This was definitely something that was never really on my life "radar" and took a LOT of thought. This is just a part time gig for the time being--I still have my full-time, 40+ hour a week day job.

I kind of knew this opportunity was a possibility a few months ago when my name had been tossed back and forth for the job but I didn't really take it too seriously until our assistant AD came and spoke with me directly. Up until that point, I had no desire to take the job--mostly because I was afraid of failing. But after speaking with the assistant AD and talking it over IMMENSELY with Peter, I decided that it was a great opportunity and I'm always preaching to others that if you want to get anywhere in life, you've got to get out of your comfort zone. So, here's me getting out of my comfort zone. Big time.

I'm really looking forward to this opportunity and excited to bring my passion and experience to a great group of runners. I'm hoping my background in fitness can bring a new dimension to training and amp up the excitement for this program. I probably won't talk much about it on here (heck, at this point, I barely talk on here anyway) but you never know.

......

So, there you have it. The cat's out of the bag. This is what I've been up to lately--lots of running, little racing, and a new part-time gig. As always, I won't make any guarantees about when I'll be back again but now that summer is approaching, I'm hoping to start posting a LITTLE more regularly. I miss this space!

See ya'll.... soon?

I'm back!!!

Long time, no see! The last week has been a WHIRLWIND and I don't even know where to begin.

Vacation was absolutely everything I wanted it to be and more. I didn't realize how badly I needed a break until I got there. I've been on the go non-stop since January and it was so nice to finally relax and just go with the flow for a few days.

That being said, I'm so beyond ready to go back to work tomorrow! Isn't it nice that I have a job I don't mind going back to?! :) I'm ready to get back into a steady routine, ready to get back to a schedule, and ready to kick some booty! I'll be teaching 7 classes this week so I don't think that will be an issue. ;)

AND even better? It's a 4-day week for me! I've got another girls weekend coming in up in Charlotte! Doesn't get much better than that.

So.. because I have no idea how to even begin on how amazing my vacation was, I'm just going to post a few more pictures. ha.

(When in doubt, just post photos, right?)

Crazy beach hair, don't care.
I managed to rock 35+ miles while on vacation! I know some people think that's absolutely crazy and that's okay. But my idea of relaxation? Rocking out mileage with no time restraints, no agenda.. just getting a chance to run for fun. Not that I don't always enjoy my runs but more often than not, I'm on some kind of time restraint and don't get a chance to fully enjoy my run while I'm in it. I LOVED being able to lace up my shoes and go out and ENJOY every minute of my workout. I stopped and took pictures when I wanted to, rested on the beach, got a LOT of thinking done.. it was AMAZING. Running is my "me" time and isn't that what vacation is all about?

You know you're a runner when.................... ;)

Dinner at Black Marlin for my Mom & Dad's anniversary. 41 years strong! I'm so blessed to have such a strong example of what marriage should be.

Sunset at Shelter Cove. GO TO HILTON HEAD! You won't regret it.

We decided to stay away from Coligny Beach this year and went across the road from our condo to a beach called Burke's Beach. It was amazing! No crowds, quiet... basically, PERFECT.

Shelter Cove has fireworks every Tuesday night so I got not one BUT TWO shows.

I got home from Hilton Head on Thursday and on Friday, Peter and I drove to Charlottesville for a quick visit to his fam. Clearly, we were both excited.

Nothing like a little farm running to get the morning started. It was a dreary run and I may or may not have gotten chased by a 3-legged dog but seriously--scenery doesn't get much better (okay, unless I'm running in Hilton Head...)

Saturday afternoon, we ventured to the Downtown mall and we FINALLY made it to the Whiskey Jar! I've been wanting to go FOREVER! Whiskey Sours are my very favorite drink and their's did not disappoint.

After way too much (delicious) food at Mono Loco and another JalapeƱo Marg (I'm OBSESSED!), we took another quick walk on the downtown mall. Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE Charlottesville and the surrounding area? By far one of my favorite places!

There ya have it. A terrible vacation recap but let's be honest--my days basically went like this:

wake up
breakfast
run
lay on the beach for approximately 1038903148 hours
dinner
bed
(aka, an ideal vacation)

Now it's time to get back to the real world and catch up on all of my blog reading! Can't wait to get my reading on!

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Monday!

Kentucky Derby Half Marathon Recap

Linking up for Tuesdays on the Run!!

I have no idea where to even start with this race. I went into it not expecting much. I mean, I knew it would be a fun race but I had no expectations of PR-ing after running way too many miles last week.

Spoiler alert: It was by far one of the BEST runs of my entire life.

So, let's start from the beginning.

I feel like I did everything you're NOT supposed to do before a big race. I played it light on the carbs leading up to the race, I bought brand new compression socks that I've never worn before at the race expo, I taped up my achilles tendon the night before (never done that before), I only got 4 hours of sleep--it was one of those "do as I say, not as a I do" kind of races.

But oddly enough, it all worked in my favor.

I arrived in Louisville Friday night to major, MAJOR traffic. Derby activities + rush hour + construction = not fun. It took me about an hour to go 5 miles but I eventually made it to Chili's to have dinner with my family. I went with the soup and salad combo and maybe snuck a nacho and fried pickle or two. Carb loading, duh! ;) Packet pick-up was downtown and lasted until 9pm so we waited a bit and then headed down. We ended up getting there around 8:30 so most of the vendors had left but I did get a chance to pick up new compression socks (I usually go for sleeves but finally decided to just go for it) and a couple of t-shirts. Waiting until the last minute was totally the way to go because there were absolutely no crowds and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. It looked like it was well organized though so that's a major plus.

My cousin and I drove back to my aunt's house and hung out until about 10:30 talking with everyone and then I finally decided it was time to head to bed.

I slept TERRIBLY. I wasn't really sleepy when I went to bed (odd) and the combo of new bed + nerves and I was tossing and turning all night long. When I woke up at 5:15am, I was seriously dragging. I figured that was a bad sign but splashed some water on my face, chugged some Spark, and kept going. As far as what I ate/drank/did before the race, I've come up with my perfect pre-race "happy hour". ha. Around 5:30am, I went with Advocare Catalyst, 6am I had chugged some rehydrate (similar to gatorade), on the way to the race, I drank my Advocare Meal Real replacement shake (equal parts protein + carbs), and then at 6:30, I took Advocare O2 gold. This combo really works for me and gives me the boost/sustained energy that I need to run longer distances.

My aunt dropped me off in downtown Louisville (thank goodness!) so I didn't have to worry about parking--something I was MAJORLY stressing about. There was no traffic which was nice so she was able to drop me off about a block from the start line. Once I got downtown, I never felt stressed once. There were plenty of portapotties, everything was very well organized, the corrals were well marked--no issues whatsoever. I got put in corral A which was kind of neat. I wasn't sure if I was feeling a corral A time before the race but I went with it. ;)

The race was slated to start exactly at 7:30am and that it certainly did. They played the famous Call to Post (super cool!), the National Anthem, my Old Kentucky Home, and boom, the gun when off and we were running!

Like I said earlier, I wasn't expecting much from this race based on the way I was feeling pre-race. But as soon as that gun when off, it was on. My legs felt great, I had a good play list, I didn't have to spend much time weaving in and out, and it was an interesting course. It was seriously like a like just switched on in my head and it was just go time.

I'm not one of those people who remembers every single thing about every mile--I always wonder how others are able to do that? ha. But I'll say this--the first 7 miles flew by. When we hit mile 7, I took a look at my watch and saw that I was running at a pretty decent clip. I started calculating in my head what it would take to PR and it was then that I decided I had enough juice to really push the pace. It was a flat course so I figured it was time to go big or go home.

I got a little bored between mile 7 & 8 but then my favorite part of the course came up--we got to run INSIDE Churchill Downs. How freakin' cool is that? It broke up the monotony enough to get me excited again.

We hit mile 9 shortly after getting out of Churchill Downs and the rest of the race was so much fun. We ran through some cool neighborhoods, had lots of crowd support, and I really, REALLY enjoyed myself.

Side note: I briefly mentioned on Friday that the weather was supposed to be terrible for the race. I'm happy to report that DURING the race, it never did much more than sprinkle/drizzle. Major win!

Once I hit mile 10, I saw that I had a pretty decent shot at destroying my previous PR. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd be able to get a sub 1:40 half marathon but from mile 10 on, that was my goal. And I ran my BUTT off. In fact, the last 3.1 miles were pretty much a blur but I remember smiling a LOT, grabbing some orange slices from a random stranger (thanks!), and running my tail off.

I'm happy to report that I hit the finish line at 1:36:39 (!!!!!!!!!)--completely demolishing my previous PR of 1:42:38! There are absolutely no words to describe how I felt after seeing that number pop up. It completely validated all of the hard work I've put in over the winter. It was the best runner's high of my entire life. And the best part? I felt like I could keep running--a good sign for my marathon in November.

Oh and that rain? Yeah, as soon as I crossed the finish line, it started POURING. But I didn't care. I PR'd my butt off and that was all that mattered. :)

The Kentucky Derby Marathon/ Mini Marathon was a wonderful race and I totally give it my two thumbs up if you ever get a chance to run it. It was a flat course (perfect for PR-ing), it was well organized, fun, and the course itself was interesting. I will TOTALLY be back again next year.

I feel like I've left out so many aspects of this race but I'm definitely still working on my race recap method. Ha. When I'm racing, I really zone out and enjoy the "process" so it's hard for me to write detail after detail. We'll get there though. ;)

And now? It's time to head to FLORIDA! I'll try and pop in a few times and give some updates on how the week is going... but no guarantees. :)

See you on the flip side! :)

Snow Day #8: Is it Spring yet?

You read that right. I'm currently in the midst of snow day #8 and as much as I'm trying to stay optimistic about the fact the sun is currently shining, I just read that we're under a winter storm watch / advisory for tonight with another 4-6 inches on the way. Yeah.

So with that in mind, I decided to stay positive today and make a list of all the things I'm looking forward to about spring/summer/warm weather/no snow.... you get the idea.

  • OUTDOOR RUNNING. This is a big one. I've been stuck indoors for far too long this winter. I can't wait to lace up my shoes and hit the pavement instead of the treadmill. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with a treadmill, clearly, but I miss getting outside.
  • SPARTAN RACE!!! I'm helping chaperone a school trip to Atlanta for the Spartan Sprint (did I mention my job can be pretty awesome?). I absolutely LOVE the  Spartan series and am bound and determined to get the Trifecta this year. Anyone else a Spartan fan? Anyone gotten the Trifecta?
  • Girls weekend in Asheville! Hotel has been booked, plans are being made... so exciting! My best friends and I live in different parts of VA / North Carolina so we make it a point to get together every 2-3 months or so--some good stories and lots of detoxing are always needed after we're done. :) (hey, you can't be healthy ALL the time)
  • Racing! This kind of goes along with outdoor running but I'm making it it's own bullet point because, well, I can. I always get withdrawals starting around February 1st. I love competing, I love the atmosphere, and I love just hanging out with fellow runners. I miss my crew! Not to mention I'm really looking forward to running the Kentucky Derby Half. I've heard a lot of awesome things about this race--any else doing this one?
  • The end of the school year. I don't mean this in a bad way whatsoever but I always love the excitement of graduation/the end of the year. After spring break, things get insane and as stressful as it can be, I love every minute of it. This year will be a little different as I'm not directly working with students but I'm still looking to it!
  • Easter Candy. DUH. Mini Cadbury Eggs are MONEY.
  • More sunlight! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I'm going to be when I get done teaching my Thursday night Insanity class and it will be LIGHT OUTSIDE.
  • Florida in May! My boss & I just got approved to travel to a fitness conference in Orlando in early May and I'm so stoked! I'm not sure that we'll get to go to any amusement parks but who cares. It's freaking Florida.
  • Marathon Training! Enough said. :) I'm so beyond stoked to run my first 26.2. Is anyone else doing Richmond in November?
Okay, I feel better already. Bring it on snow!

What are you looking forward to?!

Thursdays are for...

More Snow?

Just kidding.

Thursdays are for Thinking Out Loud!

1. Snow day #4 here. I don't remember EVER getting out 4 days in a row when I was in college. EVER! We're still opening the gym up everyday on a limited schedule but there's not a lot of work that can be done while the rest of campus is closed. We SHOULD be open again tomorrow but who knows at this point.

2. It's like, -4 degrees outside right now and the wind chill is -1390813098134. For real? I live in Virginia, not the arctic.

3. On the bright side, I've gotten some really good runs in on the treadmill this week. I've ran way too much but it is what it is. I've got so much energy from being stuck inside all day! Is it spring yet?

4. Speaking of exercise, I tested out a round of Insanity last night in my living room. With the Food Network on. Have I mentioned that I do some of my best work while watching that channel?! Needless to say, it was a good workout and my class tonight's going to be fun. ;)

5. Peter & I are THIS close to being done with season 1 of The Blacklist. We have one episode left and then I'm not quite sure what we're going to do with our life. Any suggestions?

6. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE KENTUCKY DERBY HALF.  Yep, that excited.

7. My obsession with PB2 is at an all time high. We're not talking about how many jars I've gone through that last 4 days......

8. I mentioned yesterday how I wasn't sore after doing incline bench for the first time in a long time. Yep, just kidding. I did my 50 pushups yesterday like I do everyday and totally felt it.

Happy Thursday!

TOTR

It's time for another Tuesday's on the Run! This week's topic is one of my favorites: treadmill running.

I know, I know. This is a sore subject for many runner's. Some love it. Some hate it. Some think you're not a real runner if you run on the treadmill. I get it.

So where do I stand?

Well, I'm a runner. I do what I have to do to run. Period. And to be completely honest, I think treadmills can be a great training tool. Not only that but I'll be the first to admit that I HATE running in cold weather. HATE IT! And whereas that may make me a wimp, it doesn't mean I'm not a runner.

I know others aren't as lucky to have state of the art treadmills at their fingertips like I do (perks of the job!) but even so, running on a treadmill is all about tricking your mind to just do it. I come in every morning before work and get anywhere from 4-10 miles in before stepping foot into my office. Some days it's awesome. Some days it sucks. Some days it flies by and others I'm doing every mind trick I know possible to get the clock to tick just a little bit faster. The point is, I'm running. And when I get outside, I haven't lost my "mojo" and my long runs don't seem quite as long, which is nice.

People always ask me how I can run on the treadmill for so long without dying of boredom and I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

1. Pick a good workout and you won't notice the longevity of your run. If I'm not doing a long run, I'll find some fun speed workouts to do. This keeps my mind focused on those 2-3 minutes at a time and not the bigger picture. One of my favorites is one I found on pinterest a few years ago. It's a one minute fast paced walk, 30 second jog, and one minute full on sprint. Repeat as many times as you want. I typically make it a full on hour but you don't have to.

2. Like I said, I have really awesome treadmills at my disposal and one of the cool features on ours is a goal setting tool. If you're going after a goal, it makes it a little easier to get on there day after day.

3. TV! Ha. Okay, I won't lie. This is my biggest not-so-secret. On the weekends when I do my really long runs/workouts, I check ahead and see what's going to be on TV. I love the Food Network (ha) and always schedule my workouts around a good block of shows. It breaks everything down into 30 minute blocks and commercial breaks. Weird but it works for me.

So, these are my tips. Not mind blowing by any means but they work for me. :)

What are some of your tricks and tips for running on treadmills?

Happy Tuesday!

Sarah

PS--we got another snow day! :) Now.. if I can just figure out a way to get to the gym and get on the treadmill..... ;)

Birthday Weekend

Well, I'm officially 28. And two days in, it's not so bad after all. I haven't broken a hip (yet), I haven't forgotten anything TOO important, and to be honest, I feel pretty darn good! I was thinking back to my 18th birthday and how exciting that was but I have to admit, 28 feels much better. In fact, my 28 year old self could totally kick my 18 year old's butt. I'm in the best shape of my life, I have more energy than ever before, and life. although crazy and unpredictable, is pretty fantastic. Do I wish I knew what I was doing? ALL the time. But right now, I'm just enjoying going with the flow for once. (Let'st just hope I'm this optimistic when I'm 30. Or God forbid, 38)

And now, a picture dump. Because Monday's are crazy.

Take that 18 year old Sarah.

Weather was AWESOME for my birthday so of COURSE I had to run! 9 miles in the books!

Scenery from my run. Umm, can I move here?

My "cake". I wanted to indulge but not TOO much so my  mom made this awesome, semi-healthy pie! It was delicious. I may or may not have had 6 slices..... hello, cheat day!

Props to my niece for helping me blow out the candles.

That's right--I'm officially team Fitbit!

Bring it on 28.

Treadmill Tuesday

So, I'll be honest. You'll find a LOT of runner's out there who are totally against the treadmill. But me? It's been my saving grace lately. Of course given the choice, I'd rather run outside but working at a health & wellness facility and sometimes being at work for 12+ hours a day, having a treadmill (well, several) at my disposal, has been an absolute LIFESAVER!

I rotate in and out of a lot of treadmill workouts but this is by FAR my favorite. When I need to get some decent mileage in but need a break from the monotony, this is my go-to routine.

A few of my other tips for treadmill runs?

-if you have the option, take the workout time off of the treadmill! It will drive you crazy!
-if you're lucky enough to run on treadmills with a tv attachment, find a show you like and run during the show, walk during the commercials
-do an interval workout! This ALWAYS makes time fly when I'm running.

Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad about running on a treadmill! :)

Happy Tuesday!

Sarah

Thinking Out Loud Thursdays

Linking up with Running with Spoons for this one!

1. Why have we seriously had no snow this winter? Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Working at a college has many perks and snow days are typically one of them. We've had ZERO this winter. Come on mother nature--just give me a few inches here.

2. Advocare Chocolate Meal Replacement shakes are the BEST. I've never really had a true milkshake before (WHAT) but I imagine this would be what they taste like. I'm almost done with the 24 day challenge and will be ordering more ASAP. I've heard the chocolate mocha is awesome too. Anyone tried it?!

3. I've officially ran over 200 miles this month. Well on my way of 2,015 miles this year! And to top it all, I feel awesome. I just got in Advocare's O2 gold and if you're an endurance athlete, this stuff is MONEY. If you're interested, let me know!

4. I teach Insanity on Thursdays so I'm typically at work from 6:30am-7:30pm. It's a long day and generally by the time I get to Insanity, I'm ready to go home. But as soon as I walk into the room, I get pumped to help people reach their fitness goals. That's what being a group exercise instructor is all about.

5. My name is Sarah and I'm addicted to low sugar ketchup. We're not even going to talk about how many bottles I've been through while on the 24 day challenge. Eggs, veggies, chicken, pickles... yep, I  pretty much eat it on everything. No shame. It's delicious.

6. No matter how much I try, my office is ALWAYS a wreck. Oy.

7. My birthday is next week and for the first time in forever, I have absolutely nothing planned. I thought about doing a race series in GA next weekend but the thought of driving 8 hours+ is making me think otherwise. I thought about going to Charlottesville to watch Louisville play (and hopefully BEAT) UVA... but the thought of potentially seeing them lose on my birthday didn't really appeal to me. ha. So.. now I'm trying to figure out how exactly I want to celebrate the 2-8. Yikes. Right now, going for a long run and having a nice dinner in with my family sounds best. I'm so boring.

8. Finally downloaded Trivia Crack. My life is over.

9. Debating on going the self-hosted route for this blog. Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips?

Happy Thursday!

If I could...

Stole this from one of my favorite blogs, Love, Fun, & Football!

If I could... spend all day working out, I probably would.

If I could.... go anywhere right now, I'd probably go back on another cruise. :)

If I could.... move closer to my two best friends, I would in a heartbeat.

If I could... meet one famous person right now, it'd be Shaun T.

If I could... eat one food for the rest of my life, it'd totally be pretzel M&M's.

If could.... relive one time in my life, it would definitely be my wedding weekend.

If I could.... drop my current job and do anything...... I wouldn't. I love working in the health & wellness field!

If I could...figure out the rhythm of kipping pullups, I'd be pumped.

If I could move anywhere, I'd move somewhere warm... or Charlottesville, VA.

Happy Tuesday!

Monday Morning Thoughts

Happy Monday!

It's a pretty dreary one here but luckily we're not getting quite as slammed here as they are in the Northeast. But seriously--why haven't we had ANY snow this winter?!

Monday mornings are always one of my favorites. Weird, right? Most people dread waking up but for me, it's the start of a new week and start of the new possibilities. I'm not going to lie to you and say waking up at 5:30am is my favorite but once I get to work, hop on the treadmill, catch up with the news.. I'm ready to tackle whatever the day/week has in store.

This week should be a pretty low key one for me. Everyday is hectic when working at a gym (especially a brand new one) but now that systems are starting to be put into place, it's getting much easier (in a relative sense). I'm looking forward to some great workouts (already got a 8.5 miler in this morning!), some good eats, a great Insanity class on Thursday, and hopefully some down time if I'm lucky. I just started back for the semester on my online classes for a second degree to become a Dietitian and I can't say that I'm really enjoying biochem (YUCK) all that much but trying to realize that if I'm going to make my dreams come true, there are going to be a few not-so-fun obstacles along the way. This just happens to be one of them.

And now I suppose it's time to get to work. I'll leave you with a little Monday Morning motivation. Get out there and move! You won't regret it!

Friday Favorites

To get back into the blogging world, why not start out with a linkup?

My favorites this week!

1. Advocare. I cannot say enough about the 24 day challenge. After a horrendous holiday eating plan, I'm back on track and feeling AWESOME. This is my second time doing the challenge and I can't even begin to tell you how focused I am on my goals. I have more energy, feel great, and getting back to my pre-holiday self. I continue to be impressed by this company and can't say enough about it. If you're interested in learning more, check it out. And uhh, yeah, pretty stoked with the progress I've been making on my arms.

Taken after my 8.5 mile run. Best way to start a Friday!

2. Work! I'm so obsessed with my job right now. It's a madhouse opening up a wellness facility on a college campus.. especially one that's open to the public. And I'll be honest, there have been some trying moments in the last few months but getting comments about how awesome our facility is (it totally rocks for the record), makes it all worth while. And my Insanity class last night had 18 people! It was AWESOME!

3. Quest bars. Duh.

4. My new iPhone 6. I mean, it's not MUCH different from my 5S but.. I'm pretty much in love with it. I'm still trying to figure out the health app but I love having more storage!!!

5. My workouts this week! I've had some absolutely killer workouts. My runs have been amazing, energy level is good, I've been getting back to heavy lifting.. overall, I just feel like myself again. I'm to the point right now where I wish I was running a spring marathon... that's how good I feel! Guess I just need to save these legs of mine for November. :)

Have a great weekend!

First Post!

I'm not much of a blogger. In fact, I've created more blogs in this life than I can probably count on both hands. Really the only successful one was the one I had from about 9th grade until my junior year in college. It was on livejournal. If that doesn't take you back, I don't know what does. And for the record, I did have readers.

So, why try again? Mostly because 2014 was an absolutely HUGE year and I wish I had documented it in some form or fashion. I'm KIND of hoping 2015 rocks too but that remains to be seen. I have a few huge things on the horizon so it certainly has potential. But those are for a different blog post (maybe).

Why Sarah's on the Run? Well... anyone who knows me knows that I run... a LOT. I've ran more 5k's than I could ever possibly count, a few halfs, and will be running my first full marathon come November (Richmond!). I run when I'm happy, sad, stressed, overwhelmed, excited... you get the picture. I use to hate running to be completely honest. In fact, my mom had to PAY one of my former high school teammates to take me running after my senior year in high school when I found out I got a walkon spot with my college softball team. It's now my favorite hobby and something I'm starting to get pretty good at. So, hence the title. And plus, with my job as the assistant director of a college health & wellness facility, I'm pretty busy 99.9% of the time so it serves a dual purpose.

I'm not quite sure yet the direction this blog will take but... here goes nothing.
