Weekend Update!

Hey all! It's been super busy around my neck of the woods lately so I apologize for the lack of posts. Lots of traveling, work, GRAD SCHOOL (!), and of course, my MacBook decided it was going to go haywire so it's in the shop. I'll give a good and thorough life update at some point this week.

That being said, I had an absolutely WONDERFUL weekend of indulging (too much!), best friend time, and fun. I traveled to Charlotte to see my best friends for another girls weekend and I have to say, it was one of the best yet. I won't go into full detail because that would take forever but here are some pictures to prove it.

Linking up with Healthy Diva Eats for this one!

Sometimes, you just have to go a bar and flex.  I don't think I took these glasses off all weekend. ha.

I can't tell you the last time I went out to a bar two nights in a row. College maybe?! I'm totally paying for it this morning though because I'm exhausted! I certainly can't hang like I used to!

Fashion blogger, I am not.

2am "photo shoots" are the best. Clearly.

Hey there duck face. It was so nice of you to show up in almost every single photo I took this weekend.

Recreating our driver's license photos. And having the BEST dinner. If you're in Charlotte, head to Napa. It was seriously so good.

I love these girls. It seriously doesn't matter if it's been 6 weeks or 6 months since I've seen them. It never feels any different than it used to. We all live apart but still take the time and make the effort to keep our friendship close. I know everyone isn't this lucky but man, I hope you all find someone to call "your person". I know these three will be with my for the rest of my life, through good and bad.

There you have it. Lots of fun was had this weekend and all the details? There just that--details. I'm already counting down the days until our next trip.

Weekend Update!

Good Monday morning everyone! I woke up today feeling great after a relaxing weekend. Sometimes, Monday's aren't so bad, ya know?

Weekend Recap

Friday// Typically on Friday, I try and leave work a little early but I was the only professional staff member on duty  so it didn't happen this time around. Which, when you love your job, isn't really a big deal. ;) However, I'll admit, it was SUPER slow. Around 4pm, I decided to take my "lunch" break and hop on the treadmill and hit the weights. Nothing crazy but definitely effective.

PROGRESS!

After work, Peter & I ran to Wal-Mart to pick up some supplies for the weekend and OMG--they FINALLY had chocolate chip cookie dough Arctic Zero! I seriously look every single time I go to the store and am always, ALWAYS disappointed. I wasn't even going to look this time but figured might as well. And of course they did! And guys... it's delicious. I may have gone through 2 pints this weekend.....

The rest of the night was pretty low key--we made dinner, watched a movie, and I destroyed another Sweet Haus cupcake and added in some of the Arctic Zero. ;) (I start my 24 day cleanse today--cheating was the theme of the weekend!)

Saturday// Saturday morning I continued my trend of taking a class at the gym. I usually take TurboKick but this time, it was a Tabata based class--still fun! I worked up a decent sweat and then ran 4 miles after.

Upon returning home, I somehow managed to talk Peter into going on an adventure with me. And an adventure it was. There is this AWESOME lookout tower in our area that I kept seeing my friends pots pictures of so I was bound and determined to find it. I went on the local tourism page, got directions, and off we went. Except, the tourism's page took us COMPLETELY the wrong way. Like, not even the remote same direction. What should have been a 45 minute drive took 2 HOURS. That being said, we had so much fun and when we finally did get to the lookout, it was TOTALLY worth it. I can't believe I've lived here my entire life and never been.

We ended up getting home around 7... much later than anticipated. ha. But we had dinner, watched a little basketball (YEAH WISCONSIN!) and of course, I was in bed by 10pm. No surprise there.

Sunday// I've been totally digging my longer runs on Sunday lately. I love having that time to reflect on the weekend, think about my upcoming week, and start formulating plans in my head for meal plans, workouts, etc. Not to mention, I love watching the Food Network--duh. :) This run was no exception. I finally restocked my Advocare O2 Gold (MAGIC!) and popped a couple of those about an hour before hand and it was another incredible run. A solid 10.10 miles and my legs felt so unbelievably good. I'm not sure if I'll PR at the Kentucky Derby Half but I'm hoping I at least have a shot.

It was a great start to a super low key Easter. My mom & dad were both out of town and my niece, brother and sister-in-law celebrated with her family so Peter & I just hung around the house and got some work done, cleaned, and meal prepped. Typically Sunday stuff. :) I tried staying up and watching a movie with him but once 9pm came, I was out like a light.

All in all, not a bad weekend. This weekend, my boss and I are running a half marathon relay! So excited! I've done several halfs but never a relay!

How as your weekend?!

Weekend Shenanigans: White girls really can't jump.

Happy Monday! It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL here today, I love my job, and it's the start of a brand new week. What more can you ask for?!

That being said, it's time to talk about my weekend! Linking up with Her Heartland Soul & Healthy Diva Eats today!

I had some extra overtime on my  hands so I decided to treat myself by taking Friday off... and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. ha. I got a great workout in that morning and then lazed around the house for a few hours before heading over to my parents around 4 with Peter to catch the Louisville game. From what I hear, it was waaaay too close of a game but I wouldn't know because I ended up watching Christmas Mickey for a solid hour with this kid. (It was totally worth it, btw)

She's at the age where she is soooooo much fun. Her favorite thing EVER is to make me blow bubbles with my chewing gum so she can pop it. :) I have no shame in admitting that my niece is my best friend. ;)

After the game, Peter & I weren't quite ready to go home yet so we went driving around for a bit just to pass some time. We use to do that a lot when we first started dating so it was neat to do it again. Upon returning home, we watched the new Hunger Games and then headed to bed around 11pm.. not bad for this grandma!

On Saturday, Peter ended up golfing for most of the day so I enjoyed sleeping in until 7 and catching up on a few Food Network shows. At 9, I headed to the gym to check out our new TurboKick class. Even though I'm Assistant Director of the gym and am in charge of group exercise, it's hard to make it to all of the classes during the week so weekends are my chance to try some new ones out. And let me tell you, TurboKick was so much fun! And a great workout! We were moving the entire time and it was certainly never boring. After class, I walked for a bit, did a 21 minute cross fit style AMRAP, and then decided to head home to do some MAJOR cleaning. I've been out of town for the past 2 weekends so our laundry was piled a mile high. I have to admit, out of all the chores, laundry is the WORST.

Peter ended up getting home around 3:30 so I pretty much MADE him take me out. ha. The weather was incredible and I couldn't handle being cooped up inside any longer. We decided to head to the new lookout tower on top of one our mountains here and it was incredible. Pictures don't do it justice.

And then I thought it would be fun to get a jumping picture so this happened. Clearly, I don't have ups. At all. ha.

And then because Peter hates taking pictures, I of course made him take one with me too. ;)

We had a great time and it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. I can't wait to go back when the leaves change in the fall!

Saturday night was pretty low key. Although we did discover "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix so that was a major WIN. It's freaking hilarious and we may or may not have binged watched it the past 2 nights.

Sunday was another beautiful day so Peter went golfing... again. I can't say I blame him though. I took advantage and went for a long run on the treadmill while of course, watching the Food Network (oh yeah, I'm literally that obsessed). I didn't really have a game plan going in but once I got going, my legs felt great and I ended up doing 10 miles.

Funny story--I thought the sticker said "Think Less Run More"... whoops.

Afterward, I took my normal Sunday trip to Wal-Mart. I'm starting Advocare's Lean in 13 today so I had to pick up a few extra supplies. It's a carb cycling plan and not too different from my  normal diet but we'll see what happens. It's always good to switch things up every now and again.

The rest of my Sunday involved food prepping, more cleaning and laundry (ugh!) and FINALLY getting a chance to read this month's issue of Women's Running.

I loved that it all revolved around marathons. Can you tell I'm excited for my first?!?!

When Peter finally got home, we had dinner and watched a billion more episodes of "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" before I called it quits around 9pm. Unfortunately Louisville's game wasn't until 9:40 since they're on the West Coast so I completely missed it. :( BUT I ended up waking up around 1am and upon checking twitter, found out they won so I was a happy camper. :)

All in all, it was a wonderfully low key weekend. Now it's time to tackle the week ahead! :)

Have a great Monday!

Weekend Update

Linking up with Running 'n' Reading today for my weekend update!

Running 'N' Reading

This weekend was..... dictated by weather, of course. We haven't had a "real" winter yet this year but I guess mother nature decided she would just dump it all on us at once?!

Friday I was off of work, again. After five days off, all of my days pretty much run together but I'm going to assume that I went and ran, lifted, lounged around, and ate some healthy food. Yep, I think so.

Friday night Peter & I had a surprise party for one of his co-workers to go to. It was so much fun! I honestly think it was probably the first "real" surprise party I've ever been to. He was in total shock. Even more so when a few of his buddies from the Marines drove several, SEVERAL hours to be there. It was awesome to watch. It was a much needed night out after being stuck inside for so long!

Saturday was.. interesting. There was a winter storm warning for our area calling for 3-5 inches of new snow (on top of the 12+ we already had) but.... we got much, MUCH more. Peter & I decided to hit the gym before it got too bad but even that was a bad move. We got in and in the hour that we were there, a good 6+ inches fell. I've lived here my entire life and I've never seen anything like it. Well, not lately anyway.

The picture above is from the indoor pool--the snow was literally half way up the wall and almost to the roof.

The snow continued until around 3pm on Saturday and then turned to rain, which made it even worse. We actually went from a winter storm warning to a flood warning in a matter of hours. There was no going anywhere Saturday. It was pretty devastating to our area--several businesses and buildings lost their roofs, there was localized flooding--they actually called out the National Guard yesterday and declared a local state of emergency. Insane.

Luckily Sunday, things were SLIGHTLY better. Roads were mostly clear so I continued my normal Sunday morning tradition of hitting the gym for a long-ish run while watching some of my favorite Food Network shows (ha, I'm such a nerd). I got in 9.6 miles at about an 8 minute pace with some speed work mixed in so I was happy. Several people on my Instagram feed ran the Disney Princess Half yesterday and now I'm ITCHING to run a race. There's a 10 miler next weekend about an hour away from me so I may drop in on that, we'll see. These legs are ready to go!

Sunday afternoon, we got the call that we'd be closed again TODAY (!) so my normal Sunday afternoon/evening routine wasn't quite as structured as normal. I did a bit of meal prep (as in, I made more cookie dough dip), I went back to the gym and walked a mile or so while Peter got in a workout (he slept in yesterday morning), and then we came home and watched a few episodes of Sons of Anarchy (trying to get into it) and had dinner. So, all in all, a low key Sunday but no complaints.

So, there you have it. Not a terribly exciting weekend but not too bad, right? Today I'm heading in to work because I have GOT to get some things done! I can't believe I haven't been in over a week! Here's to hoping mother nature calms down a bit.

Have a great Monday!
