Girls Weekend in Richmond/C-Ville

Good Monday morning! I'm back from an incredible weekend in RVA/C-Ville with my very best friends in the entire world. I've been looking forward to this weekend for a LONG time but it wasn't until I got there on Friday night that I realized just how much I needed it! We had such a wonderful time and I always come back from our trips refreshed, happy, a little heavier (ha!), and grateful that I have 3 ladies who mean the world to me. It just goes to show that sometimes sitting on the sidewalk the first night of your freshman year of college can end up being one of the best things you ever did. ;)

There's absolutely NO way I can even begin to recap every single thing that happened this weekend so I'm going to do a photo dump instead.

On Friday, we signed up for a groupon for RVA Paint Nite and it was so much fun! Does it seriously get any better than starting off a girls weekend with a little paint and a (few) drinks?! We had a blast. And I have to be honest, I'm actually kind of happy with how my feather turned out! ha. I'm terrible at painting/crafting but I didn't do too shabby.

I started off our Saturday morning with a super quick mile to keep my RW Running Streak going and then we got ready and headed to one of my favorite places in Virginia, Charlottesville! The girls had never been there so I did my best to show them around my favorite places (not that I'm an expert by any means!).

We started off the day at Keswick Vineyards for a quick tasting and where some guy graciously took our photo above--it's one of my favorites! I'm not much of a wine person but it was pretty good! We were going to go to a few others but decided to head to the downtown mall for a quick lunch and to look around.

A quick trip to the mall turned into us being there until about 10pm that night. ha. Go figure, right? We did LOTS of window shopping, grabbed some gelato, and then as we were about to leave around 5:30, decided we should stop by Mono Loco's for a Spicarita, since they've come so highly recommended.

I'm not a margarita fan by any means but this.... this was one of the best drinks I've had in my life. So good in fact, that I had four. ha. Whoops. Totally worth it. If you're ever in C-ville, please, please, PLEASE go grab one at Mono Loco's. You won't regret it... well, you might if you had four like me.. but it's still worth it. ha.

Sometimes, you just have to flex, you know?

Peter's sister and her boyfriend ended up meeting us there for about an hour or so and it was great catching up. Once we finally left the restaurant (3 hours later!), they showed us probably one of the COOLEST places I had no idea existed on the downtown mall. It was a hidden bar down an alley way with no sign whatsoever, just a door with a wine barrel out front. You would have no idea it was there unless someone took you there or told you about it, like in our case. But, you open this creepy door, walk up some steps, and it's so. flipping. NEAT. It's this super nice, 20's looking bar and had we not been exhausted. we would have stayed for a while. But I do plan on going back next time I'm in town!

Sunday, we got up, made breakfast, and unfortunately had to say our goodbyes. :( That's always, ALWAYS the hardest part. But what I love about my group of friends is that we plan our girls trips way in advance so that we know we have something to look forward to in the coming months. And actually, we'll be getting together in July for another weekend getaway in Charlotte.

And even more exciting? We've tentatively planned to spend my last birthday in my 20's in Key West in February. You KNOW that's going to be a good time. :)

So, that was my weekend in a very, VERY brief nutshell. I'm back at work this morning with a 10 miler under my belt and ready to tackle another week. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and I'll be back tomorrow with another edition of Tuesday's on the Run.

Go out there and kick Monday's butt!

Umm, it's June?!

Happy Monday everyone! How the HECK is it June 1st already?! Good grief. I feel like I just got back from Florida last week and was complaining because it was already May. Even crazier? Marathon training starts SOON. Ahh! Ever since I signed up, people have been asking me when I'll start training and I always tell them I have a few months to go... umm, not any more. How about I have ONE MONTH. It's about to get real up in here. ha.

We're going to do this picture style. Mostly because my creativity is lacking a bit today. ha.
Friday was a pretty slow day at work. I was extra proud of myself for pushing through an afternoon round of Insanity and weights, especially when going into it, I totally wasn't feeling it. That being said, I knew how much better I'd feel after it was over... and I did! Don't you love when that happens?

I was rewarded with this sunset when I got home. Snapping this picture was just about the only time I got up off the couch the entire night. ;) It's not too often I just relax so I took full advantage of it.

I got to hang out with this stinker most of the day on Saturday--always a good time. I had a wedding to attend earlier in the day and afterward, came back to my parents house for a lonnnnnnng afternoon at the pool with some of my extended family. Can we say, PERFECT? I took this picture on our trip to the park.

I finally got my last run with my shoes in on Sunday. Again, do as I say, not as I do. I definitely DON'T recommend going as long as I did with a pair of running shoes. ha. It won't happen again. But that being said, I had to send them out with a bang. I had a KILLER run. (PS--anyone else doing the Runner's World Run Streak this year?)

Annnnnnd... the new guys. LOVE them. I took them out this morning for a test drive and I felt like I was flying. I never realize how bad my old shoes are until I put new ones on. ha. Needless to say, I don't plan taking these for 1000+ miles.

It was a low key weekend and I loved every minute of it. I have another short week on dock and then a fun girls weekend planned in RVA/Charlottesville! I'm so excited! Have a great Monday everyone!

How long do you wear your running shoes?

(Lazy) Weekend Recap

Happy Memorial Day! I'm writing from the comforts of my couch this morning while watching the Today Show and drinking my protein shake. No complaints!

Linking up with Healthy Diva Eats for Marvelous Monday... although considering my weekend was pretty uneventful, it shouldn't take too long to recap. ;)

Friday//

Friday was a pretty low key day at work. With awesome weather and high temps, exercising indoors isn't exactly high on people's priority lists. I certainly can't blame them. My own workout on Friday was pretty low key for that very reason. Just some walking and some ab/arm action to end out the week. I generally take it pretty easy on Friday's and try and head out a few minutes early.

Peter happened to be off on Friday so we FINALLY went and saw Pitch Perfect 2! Being the old people that we are, we went to the 5:00 showing (ha!) and it was totally worth it. No crowds, matinee prices, and we were out in time for dinner. Totally the way to go from here on out. The movie itself was really good! We both agreed that it started a little slow but other than that, we loved it and it ended on a high note (no pun intended, ha).

We were planning on going home and eating dinner but stopped in to my parent's house and ended up eating dinner with them. Or well, stealing dinner from them. ha. They had pizza and my mom put together a killer salad and we were STARVING so... we dug right in. Hopefully they didn't mind. ;)

Saturday//

I had tentatively made plans to run a 5k on Saturday morning but woke up and just wasn't feeling it. I was actually really proud of myself for deciding not to do it. Sometimes I have a hard time listening to my body but Saturday it was definitely telling me no. Instead, I enjoyed a quiet morning at home and then headed to the gym to take a TurboKick class and do my own thing. TurboKick was great--It's always fun to GO to a class instead of take one! Any other group exercise instructors feel that way?!

After class, I walked until I got my 10,000 steps and some change and then headed home. Peter worked Saturday & Sunday so I was all by myself... and took advantage by cleaning! I've been putting of some big projects out of pure laziness lately so I decided it was about time I got in the kitchen and bathroom and did some DEEP cleaning. It was a very productive afternoon.

The rest of the night? Picture me posted on the couch watching TV and thoroughly enjoying doing absolutely nothing.

Sunday//

Sunday was much like Saturday, except I did go for a run. And a good one at that. 10.3 miles in the books and my legs felt incredible. They were a little sluggish at first but once I found my groove, it was easy. I love runs like that!

I ended up making a GNC/grocery run after my workout and then got some more work around the house the remainder of the afternoon. I also took some time to read a few magazines that I've neglected for the last month or so. Needless to say, it was  relaxing afternoon. And even better? Because I have today off, I actually got to watch some of my favorite shows in REAL TIME. It's the little things people.

As for today? I think I've convinced myself to go to the gym here in a few and tackle Murph in honor of Memorial Day.
1 mile run + 100 pull-ups + 200 pushups + 300 squats + 1 mile run

And then I'm promptly heading to my mom & dad's house to enjoy life by the pool. :)

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. I'm so grateful to all of those folks who gave us their all so that we could enjoy this day and every other day of the year. <3
